Fabric Frenzy
I went to IKEA last week and look what I found!
(IKEA "Sanne" fabrics) If I remember correctly, it is called SANNE, available in these three and some other designs and is a steal at 2,99 Euro per meter. Look - the yellow one has a japanese pattern so I simply had to have it...not sure what I will do with it yet. I will probably use the green for a skirt. And my order from "The Cotton Shop" arrived
I will use the green "Roman Glass" by Kaffe Fasset (I have one of his craft books - brilliant use of colors!) for the simple a-line skirt pattern pictured, the red will be the main fabric for my "perfect bag"-project. For a couple of months now I have been planning the perfect bag (no more looking for keys, your wallet and your cell etc.). We'll see how it goes. The dotted fabric might be transformed into a skirt too - not sure anymore if I ordered enough. So much to sew, so little time... |

Say my gnome say my gnome...
Just a quick post today, something I find quite amusing...
(gnome balcony) Sorry my zoom is so bad, but this balcony is hilarious. Whoever lives there can't even step outside because the whole thing is populated by billions of garden gnomes, snow white, babie deer, a windmill...anything you can imagine. And just in case you were wondering - yes, all the flowers are plastic. Most people just stop dead in front of this house. It's right in my neighbourhood - so I will keep count of the gnomes. There is a good chance they are breeding up there. |

The one with the anniversary
(Official wedding photo, 7/3/2004) Today is our one year wedding anniversary. Funny how time flies when you're having fun! We are still very happy and myhusband really is the love of my life. A year ago from today these things happened: - I had to run through the rain for about half a mile to get to my hairdresser - there was some kind of horse parade in the city and no cars were allowed to drive through (luckily when we had to get to church the parade was over) - a lot of people stayed at my parents house so it was very very hectic until everybody got into their "sunday clothes" - my parents started to button up my dress from both sides and when they reached the middle it seemed to tight to close...that's when I started to panic... -...and began to think that I would have to walk the aisle in front of 70 people (with a dress that couldn't be closed around my waist, but that was a minor detail at that moment)...and panicked even more...pure stage fright... - ...I started to cry... -...my poor husband-to-be heard somebody say I was crying and asked my dad if I didn't want to marry him anymore... -...in the bedroom my mother rebuttoned my dress (the right way this time, top down) and this time it fit... - ...my father poured me a schnaps to calm me down, but refused to give me another (god knows I could have used it) since I rarely drink he thought I might end up barging down the aisle and missing the cue for my "I do"... -...my nervous husband had to leave for church praying I would show up and not chicken out (that's why people said his complexion was as green as his tie when he waited for me at the altar) - ...the ceremony itself was beautiful and went along as scheduled, both of us moved to tears - ...my brother was supposed to drive us to the reception but even so he rehersed the way to get there with my dad the day before, he took the first wrong turn possible...with all the other cars following us...my brother kept muttering "Dad is going to kill me..." since we got a little lost driving through the city... - ...when we finally got to the expressway my brother tried to make up for lost time and drove a little faster than he was told to, causing the flower arrangement on the hood to detach and it practically flew away over our heads - ...when my mum and I unpacked the wedding cake in the kitchen of the restaurant to sprinkle fresh nasturtium blossoms on the layers, we discovered that the baker used the wrong cake topper (I'm sure he was mad at us because we ordered a plain cake without his beloved marzipan roses.). Staring back at me was the ugliest plastic wedding couple you can imagine. To my mothers horror I quickly yanked it off the cake and filled the whole with more flowers (which actually looked quite nice) - ...at the wedding, we planned to set up my cousin with one of my best friends and it worked! He gave up his job in the Netherlands and just moved in with her in Hamburg. That's all I'm going to tell you. In all it was a typical family celebration (at least typical for our family...), wonderful and memorable with all it's ups and downs. One last thing I can show you - the headpiece of the veil that I made myself
(Oops - sorry it is so big - it seems I can't resize it...) |
